Setup and loading

Feet on the floor or on a bench.

How to do the crunch step by step

  1. Lie down with your knees bent and your hands beside your head.
  2. Press your lower back into the floor and lift your shoulders a few inches.
  3. Squeeze at the top and lower slowly.

Form cues

  • Short, controlled range of motion
  • Chin away from your chest

Common mistakes

  • Interlacing your hands and pulling on your neck
  • Coming all the way up to sitting

3 x 8-15 or 20-45 s

3-4 sets of 20-45 seconds or 8-12 slow reps. Rest 45 to 60 seconds.

Neutral spine, tight abs and controlled breathing. Progress in time or leverage before adding weight.
