How to do the barbell curl step by step

  1. Stand holding the bar at shoulder width with your palms facing forward.
  2. Elbows tucked to your sides.
  3. Curl the bar up by bending your elbows without moving your upper arms.
  4. Squeeze at the top and lower slowly.

Form cues

  • Only your forearms move
  • Controlled lowering

3-4 sets of 6-12 reps (up to 15-20 on isolation exercises) at 65-80% of your max. Rest 1 to 2 minutes.
