Best Cycling Power Meters (2026): Pedals, Cranks and Spiders

The classic mistake is buying the cheapest power meter without checking whether it fits your bike: many only work with specific cranks. First, decide on the type (pedal, crank or spider) and whether measuring one leg is enough for you. We picked eight models that cover every type and budget. Single-sided or dual-sided

Single-sided meters measure only your left leg and double it. They're cheaper and fine for training by watts, but if one leg is stronger, the total reading drifts.

Dual-sided meters measure each leg separately. They give your true power and left-right balance, which is useful if you're coming back from an injury or want to fine-tune your technique.

Pedal power meters

It sits inside the pedal spindle. It's the easiest to install and move between bikes: all you need is a pedal wrench.

The trade-off is that you're locked into the pedal's cleat system, usually Look Keo or Shimano SPD-SL.

Crank power meters

It's bonded to the left crank arm. It's light and cheap, but it has to match your groupset (Shimano 105, Ultegra or SRAM Rival) and crank length.

Spider power meters

It sits in the spider that connects the chainrings to the right crank. It measures the force of both legs together, so it gives you true total power.

It only fits specific cranks and installation is more involved.

Verdict

If you have SRAM Rival AXS cranks, the €161 Rival E1 is unbeatable. With Shimano 105 or Ultegra, the InPeak PowerCrank-E is the simplest way to get started. If you want to move your power meter from one bike to another, go with pedals: the Favero Assioma UNO to start, and the Assioma DUO or Magene P715 if you want to measure each leg. The Magene P515 and Sigeyi AXO spiders give you total power for about €300, but only if your cranks are compatible.

Frequently asked questions

Is a single-sided power meter worth it?

Yes, it's enough for training by power zones. If one leg is clearly stronger, the total drifts by a few points.

Which power meter is easiest to move between bikes?

Pedal-based ones: they come off with a pedal wrench in a few minutes.

Does every power meter fit every bike?

No. Crank and spider meters depend on your cranks, and pedal meters depend on the cleat type.

Do power meters work with Zwift and bike computers?

Every model on the list transmits via Bluetooth and ANT+, so they work with Zwift and with most bike computers and watches.
